Research

Superlative Semiconductor LLC has a rich history of executing large, comprehensive research projects whose impact is evident in the consistent awarding and further inviting of the resulting publications. Our passion is innovation across the entire product - from the top level to the component level.

  • S.U.R.F.E.R. Low-Cost Software-Defined UHF RFID Reader
    • • Project was undertaken to break the chicken-and-egg problem of high publicly available UHF RFID module and IC cost and limited market demand.
    • • Developed a fully-functional software-defined UHF RFID reader which could obtain over 12m of tag read range with a patch antenna.
    • • Was presented at IEEE RFID 2018 where the project won two best publication awards.
    • • Crammed an entire UHF RFID digital back end and more into a low-cost 2,304 element FPGA.
    • • The S.U.R.F.E.R. project was subsequently invited to appear at IMS 2019 and in IEEE Microwave Magazine in 2018.
    • • Was open sourced in 2021 at https://openrfidreader.net.
    • • Publications from this project are publicly available here.
  • Digitally Linearized RF Receiver
    • • Was performed as part of Ph.D research.
    • • Designed blocker-tolerant cellular radio receivers which achieved best-in-class linearity at the time of publication.
    • • Publications from these projects are publicly available here and here.
